Patients

Faster diagnosis, better treatment and potentially millions of saved lives

Living with a serious medical condition is stressful. For your peace of mind, you expect to be taken seriously, diagnosed quickly and referred for treatment without delays. You value deep knowledge from experienced healthcare professionals who provide simple pathways to health.

Patient Advocacy Groups are constantly monitoring the lengths of waiting lists and lobbying for ways to speed up treatment for heart patients. In many countries, 90 days is the maximum period allowed before secondary care is referred. But when best practices are adopted that timeline can be much shorter. Unfortunately, however, it often ends up being much longer…

SmartECG is a medically improved, top-quality way of diagnosing more patients

SmartECG is a top-notch service for diagnosing large numbers of patients who potentially have heart conditions. It’s a fast solution, providing an accurate analysis within minutes.

A better customer experience

  • The SmartECG service means less hassle for patients – especially when tests prove negative. In such cases, healthcare units are able to serve people with no need for further referral.
  • As the SmartECG service lowers the threshold of ordering an ECG, you as a patient can feel more assured of being taken seriously.
  • SmartECG shortens waiting lists and reduces waiting times.
  • The SmartECG service is a way of providing accessible, high-quality monitoring for all patients,  regardless of healthcare provider (public vs. private, big cities vs. countryside, etc.)
  • Earlier access to diagnosis and treatment leads to more lives saved and increased quality of life.

The SmartECG Service will support GPs in decision making

The SmartECG tool will be medically validated before we pilot the SmartECG service with our partners and customers in Finland, Sweden and United Kingdom in late 2018.

GPs

Helps GPs diagnose heart conditions and get heart patients to treatment faster

Treating patients in the best possible way is the number one priority for you as a medical professional.

But you may lack quick and easy access to an ECG monitoring device at your clinic, or perhaps consultation times are so short that you need to refer your patients to secondary care and long wait times.

You may also feel that the automatic report generated by your ECG monitoring device does not support you enough to help you make a diagnosis, or perhaps ECG interpretation is not an area you are specialized in. This is particularly tricky when it comes diagnosing potential “grey zone” patients.

Often the standard process – where you need to ask for a specialist’s ECG consultation – could be managed more effectively. Instead of sending PDF consultation reports back and forth, you could spend more time on treatment. This is something that both you and your patients would appreciate!

What is SmartECG service

The SmartECG service is a reliable decision-making tool for GP’s to make a diagnosis based on the ECG data of any event-ECG or Holter monitor.

  • During the piloting phase in 2018, the SmartECG service will provide automatic analysis reports for Holter and event devices
  • A Rest-ECG parameter will be available as part of the SmartECG service 2.0 by 2020
  • SmartECG will be a medically-approved solution. The FDA and CE validation process will begin in early 2018 and will be finalized later the same year

How the SmartECG service benefits GP

1. A cost-effective way to diagnose more patients:

  • The service will be compatible with most ECG monitoring devices.
  • It adds ECG analysis capacity in a cost-effective way, so monitoring is possible whenever medically sensible.
  • The service lowers the threshold of ordering an ECG.
  • It is a cost-efficient way of diagnosing large numbers of potential heart-condition patients.
  • Patients feel they have been taken seriously when you have offered them a thorough examination.

2. A fast, flexible and easy-to-use service:

  • The SmartECG service provides an instant analysis within minutes.
  • It can be linked to the diagnosis pathways of your choice. A specialist’s consultation can be acquired on request, either from the SmartECG service platform (within two working days) or GPs can use their own internal resources.
  • SmartECG is simple to use and easy to learn.

Cardiologists

Make better use of scarce resources

Specialist treatment currently is and will continue to be the bottleneck in ECG monitoring. In 2012, approximately one third of doctors in the EU were aged 55 or over. According to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, from 2020 more than 60 thousand doctors (or 3.2 % of the current workforce) are expected to leave the profession each year.

At the same time, ageing populations are becoming a major challenge for the health sector in both the EU and elsewhere in the developed world. The demand for healthcare will increase dramatically, yet the proportion of people working in healthcare will likely stagnate or in some cases decline. This will result in staff shortages in certain medical specialisations or geographic areas.

Scarcer resources are best tackled with smarter treatment options – like SmartECG.

How the SmartECG service benefits cardiologists and specialists

  1. Scarce resources are directed towards real patient cases in secondary care.
  2. SmartECG helps to ease the workload of specialists.

Scarce resources can be directed to real patient cases that need to be diagnosed and treated in secondary care. For the specialist this means more time is available for patients with the most complicated cardiac conditions.

Healthcare organisations

Cost-effectively diagnose more patients

As a leader in a healthcare organisation, your goal is to provide excellent patient care within a complex ecosystem of multiple demands and actors. The competitive environment is getting more challenging, yet as populations age and the need for healthcare grows, financial resources are not necessarily increasing at the same pace. In addition, financial reimbursement systems may not always facilitate the optimal use of resources and patient pathways.

To stay ahead in this turbulent environment and to build sustainable healthcare units, more efficient patient and treatment processes need to be developed. Digital processes, patient data systems, artificial intelligence and robotics are all evolving rapidly to contend with this new world.

1. SmartECG service is a cost-effective way of diagnosing more patients:

  • SmartECG is a cost-efficient way to diagnose large numbers of potential heart patients.
  • With SmartECG you can optimise your internal processes and diagnose large numbers of potential heart patients in a cost-effective way.
  • SmartECG will be a universally adopted solution for all healthcare units.
  • Doctors are also able to treat the patient themselves, minimizing the need for referrals.

 2. A better customer experience:

  • SmartECG makes it possible for you to give your customers a seamless experience by serving them in your own healthcare unit with no need to refer them further.
  • As the SmartECG service lowers the threshold to ordering ECGs, your patients feel they have been taken seriously and given thorough treatment.

3. A fast, flexible and easy-to-use service:

  • The SmartECG service is a fast solution, providing an instant analysis within minutes.

Device manufacturers

Make your ECG monitoring devices more valuable to your customers

The SmartECG service will be a unique and revolutionary solution, an algorithm and service platform with which ECG data can be automatically analysed and interpreted.

The healthcare clinics will be able to use the ECG monitoring devices more efficiently to monitor more patients

  • SmartECG service adds ECG analysis capacity in a cost-effective way, so monitoring is possible whenever medically sensible.
  • SmartECG service lowers the threshold of ordering ECG.
  • SmartECG service is a cost-efficient way of diagnosing large numbers of potential heart patients.
  • The patients feel that they have been taken seriously
  • With SmartECG healthcare units can optimise their internal processes and diagnose large numbers of potential heart patients in a cost-effective way.

We invite all ECG device manufacturers to join our Open Platform Initiative.

Our plan is to develop SmartECG service as on open platform, thus compatible with all potential ECG monitoring devices. For ECG device manufacturers this means that the analysis can be produced from any device that SmartECG has access to.

Many ECG device manufacturers already have open data platforms, and those with closed data platforms we invite to our Open Platform Initiative.

The SmartECG algorithm based analysis can be produced from virtually any ECG monitoring device.

In the piloting phase in 2018, the SmartECG service will provide automatic analysis reports from Holter monitoring devices, and by 2020 from event and rest ECG monitoring devices.

Device manufacturers will benefit from SmartECG by being able to support the healthcare organisations in the secondary care to treat the cardiac patients at the right time with the high-quality monitoring devices.

On the other hand, SmartECG service will help healthcare clinics in primary care use the ECG monitoring devices more effectively than before.
